Sleep enhancement tips
It has been said that the importance of sleep to good health cannot be underestimated and that sleep is the foundation of wellbeing. When we sleep our bodies have the opportunity to regulate vital physiological functions. Hormones are released at regular intervals to support organ health as in the case of hormones stimulating the pacemaker of the heart (which enables us to have a regular heart beat and adequate blood flow. Create your own sleep routine. This entails going to bed and waking up at the same time (yes, for weekends too!) and establishing a bedtime routine that you find relaxing and something calming like taking a bath.
Use your bedroom for sleep and sex – ideally have it free of activities that engage your mind (and thinking) such as like television, computers, and work.
Eat in moderation before bedtime (watching that you are not hungry or too full).
Finish exercising a few hours before bedtime.
Be aware of your caffeine (coffee, tea, and chocolate) intake before going to bed as these substances are stimulants and may make rest difficult. Alcohol though a depressant can cause interrupted sleeping.
Note that a dark, quiet, cool, and comfortable environment supports sleep.
Keep a record of how you sleep and note what activities and patterns support both good and poor nights' sleep.
