Eyelash Extensions – Frequently Asked Questions

What are eyelash extensions?

They are individually applied synthetic mink lashes that add length, fullness and curl.  These lashes stay on for up to 2 months, they are weightless and a natural extension of your own lashes.

Tell me about the process?

You relax with your eyes closed and there is no pain as this is a non-invasive procedure.  It is so relaxing that most clients fall asleep.  During the process a natural eyelash is isolated and a synthetic lash is glued next to your own natural eyelash approximately 1mm from the base of your eyelash, so neither the glue nor the synthetic mink lash has contact with the skin.

How long will the application take?

A full set takes approximately 90 minutes, while a relash takes between 30-60 minutes.

How long do they last?

sweetgrassspa eyelash extensions are semi-permanent, synthetic mink lashes that significantly lengthen and thicken natural lashes.  Extensions are applied one by one to the natural lash (not the skin)  using a specially formulated, non-damaging adhesive. The extensions can be maintained indefinitely with touch ups. On average, our clients book in for relash appointments every three weeks, however this may vary based on your lash growth cycle, how you sleep and how well you care for your extensions.

How do I take them off/remove them?

The extensions are easily removed by our lash stylist using an adhesive remover.

Will the extensions damage my natural lashes?

No, not when applied properly by our certified lash stylist.  One synthetic mink  lash is applied to one natural lash with a medical grade adhesive.  They are very light weight.  When your natural lash completes its growth cycle and falls out, the attached synthetic lash falls off with it and a new lash grows in its place.

Do people have reactions/what if I’m allergic?

Our lash stylist tells us it’s very rare that someone experiences irritation.  If there is a reaction it will be apparent shortly after the application.  If this occurs, the extensions must be removed by our stylist, which is quick and painless.

Can I swim, shower, exercise with them on?

During the first 24 hours you are required to keep the lashes dry to ensure proper curing of the adhesive.  After this period, you can resume these activities.

Can I wear mascara?

No it is not recommended.  You can roll out of bed looking great and best of all, your lashes will look like you’re wearing mascara 24/7 without the clumping, streaking, and smudging look that you get with mascara.

Do I need to use special products?

We carry several eyelash extension compatible products.  It is important not to use oil based products near the extensions as they weaken the bond of the adhesive.
